Portulaca grandiflora Double Mix Seeds - Moss rose

Native to South America, Portulaca grandiflora Double Mix, also called Moss Rose, is small annual plant that is a real sun and heat enthusiast. It is particularly resistant to drought, as evidenced by its succulent foliage. In summer, this stocky plant tirelessly produces large, generally double, open flowers in bright shades of yellow, pink, red and orange, which only open in the sun. This variety of moss rose belongs to the family Portulaceae and is widespread in the semi-arid areas of Argentina, southern Brazil and Uruguay. This annual plant is one of the few that are succulent. It forms small prostrate clumps that measure no more than 20 cm high and 15 cm wide. Its reddish stems bear small pearl-like leaves, which are lanceolate, fleshy and of a bright green hue. Flowering takes place throughout the summer. Its large flowers are 5 cm in diameter, widely open, very double and are made up of many silky, ruffled petals that come in a variety of bright colours. They require full sunshine and well-drained soil in order to thrive.
