Description
The 'Flamingo Feather' Celosia is a magnificent selection of Celosia argentea that is particularly floriferous, with tall, numerous pastel pink flower spikes, ideal for cut flowers. This annual plant forms a beautiful clump in one season, adorned with very soft-to-the-touch, lilac-pink flower spikes, gradually fading to a silvery pink at the top of the spike. Highly ornamental in flower beds or pots, it is also a vegetable whose young leaves can be eaten like spinach and its seeds like cereal. It is easy to grow in rich, sunny soil. Sow indoors in March and plant outside after the last frost.
The 'Flamingo Feather' Celosia belongs to the Amaranthaceae family, just like amaranths and orache. This variety is highly valued in floristry and stands out for its inflorescences in long, narrow, pyramid-shaped cymes composed of tiny flowers, giving the overall appearance of a plume. Its pale green, sparse foliage consists of lanceolate leaves measuring 10-15 cm (4-6in) long. The whole plant forms a clump of branched stems that reaches about 70 cm (28in) high and 50 cm (20in) wide. Flowering starts in June (depending on the sowing date) and continues throughout the summer. After pollination, a large quantity of small, round, light brown seeds is formed. The leaves and older stems have a bitter taste, while the young leaves have a pleasant spicy flavour reminiscent of spinach.
The 'Flamingo Feather' Celosia is a fantastic cut flower, used fresh or dried. Its pastel inflorescences are perfect companions for roses, peonies, and dahlias. Planting should take place after the last frost (May in most regions), as it freezes at 0 °C. The soil should be enriched with compost or potting soil before planting. The best exposure for celosia is full sun. This annual is perfect for flower beds and flower borders. It also allows for the creation of beautiful flowering pots on the terrace.

Planting and care
Broadcast sow the Flamingo Feather Celosia from February to April in a tray of good quality compost. Cover the seeds by sprinkling compost or vermiculite, lightly press down and water generously with a fine rose. Place your tray in a well-lit area, without direct sunlight, at a temperature of 24°C (75.2°F) to 27°C (80.6°F).
The seeds will germinate in 14 to 21 days. Once the plants have reached a height of 5 cm (2in), transplant them into pots. 15 days before their final planting, start gradually acclimatising them to a temperature of 15°C (59°F).
By late May or early June, the temperature in the garden will be warm enough to plant your young plants. Choose a sunny location. Add a good scoop of compost to each planting hole. Avoid planting in alkaline soils. Space your plants 25 cm (10in) apart. Water and mulch if necessary.

Hardiness is the lowest winter temperature a plant can endure without suffering serious damage or even dying. However, hardiness is affected by location (a sheltered area, such as a patio), protection (winter cover) and soil type (hardiness is improved by well-drained soil).
The flowering period indicated on our website applies to countries and regions located in USDA zone 8 (France, the United Kingdom, Ireland, the Netherlands, etc.)
It will vary according to where you live:- In zones 9 to 10 (Italy, Spain, Greece, etc.), flowering will occur about 2 to 4 weeks earlier.
- In zones 6 to 7 (Germany, Poland, Slovenia, and lower mountainous regions), flowering will be delayed by 2 to 3 weeks.
- In zone 5 (Central Europe, Scandinavia), blooming will be delayed by 3 to 5 weeks.
In temperate climates, pruning of spring-flowering shrubs (forsythia, spireas, etc.) should be done just after flowering.
Pruning of summer-flowering shrubs (Indian Lilac, Perovskia, etc.) can be done in winter or spring.
In cold regions as well as with frost-sensitive plants, avoid pruning too early when severe frosts may still occur.
The planting period indicated on our website applies to countries and regions located in USDA zone 8 (France, United Kingdom, Ireland, Netherlands).
It will vary according to where you live:
- In Mediterranean zones (Marseille, Madrid, Milan, etc.), autumn and winter are the best planting periods.
- In continental zones (Strasbourg, Munich, Vienna, etc.), delay planting by 2 to 3 weeks in spring and bring it forward by 2 to 4 weeks in autumn.
- In mountainous regions (the Alps, Pyrenees, Carpathians, etc.), it is best to plant in late spring (May-June) or late summer (August-September).
The harvesting period indicated on our website applies to countries and regions in USDA zone 8 (France, England, Ireland, the Netherlands).
In colder areas (Scandinavia, Poland, Austria...) fruit and vegetable harvests are likely to be delayed by 3-4 weeks.
