Description
Helichrysum bracteatum Pastel Mixture consists of a mixture of flowers in pastel tones. Their never-fading heads are ideal for creating long-lasting dried bouquets. Appreciated for their long and generous summer flowering, everlasting flowers are easy-to-grow plants that love the sun and tolerate drought well. They can be planted in a flower bed, border, or even in a vegetable garden. Sow them under cover in March-April, or directly in the garden in April-May.
Belonging to the Asteraceae family, like sunflowers or daisies, Helichrysum bracteatum is a perennial herbaceous plant native to Australia, grown as an annual in our latitudes. The everlasting flower is also known as Helichrysum bracteatum or Bracteantha bracteata. The Pastel Mixture is covered with heads approximately 4 cm in diameter in pastel shades of white, pink, and yellow from July to October. The bracts surrounding the fertile and yellow centre and the flower do not fade. These are excellent flowers for dried bouquets. Do not wait for the flowers to fully open before picking them. Hang them upside down in a well-ventilated and dark place to dry them. Then remove the leaves and create dried flower bouquets and decorations.
Pastel Mixture everlasting flowers, with their height of 80 cm, will make an impression in the vegetable garden with other cut flowers, as well as in a flower bed or a border. Combine them with other perennials and annuals whose flowers also dry well. For a soft-toned assortment, choose Achillea ptarmica Weihenstephan with its delightful white flowers, Gypsophila Rosy Veil with its airy pink flowers, and Statice QIS Apricot with its pale pink-orange flowers.

Planting and care
The Pastel Mixture everlasting flowers can be sown in March-April, under a frame and in place or in a tray indoors. The ideal germination temperature is 18 to 20 °C. Sow your seeds in a mixture of garden soil and compost. Germination can take between 15 and 20 days. Once the seedlings are strong enough, transplant them into pots and plant them in the garden once the risk of frost has passed, spacing 35 to 40 cm apart.
You can also sow directly in place in April or May, once the soil has warmed up enough and all risk of frost has passed. Thin out your seedlings to keep only the most developed plants and maintain a distance of about 40 cm between each plant.
Pinch the young plants to encourage branching and remove faded flowers as they appear.
Helichrysum bracteatum appreciate heat and sunny, or slightly shaded, exposures. They grow best in rich, neutral, light and well-draining soil. They tolerate drought, although regular watering during flowering allows for more developed plants. They also tolerate poor soils or partial shade where they are less floriferous.

Hardiness is the lowest winter temperature a plant can endure without suffering serious damage or even dying. However, hardiness is affected by location (a sheltered area, such as a patio), protection (winter cover) and soil type (hardiness is improved by well-drained soil).
The flowering period indicated on our website applies to countries and regions located in USDA zone 8 (France, the United Kingdom, Ireland, the Netherlands, etc.)
It will vary according to where you live:- In zones 9 to 10 (Italy, Spain, Greece, etc.), flowering will occur about 2 to 4 weeks earlier.
- In zones 6 to 7 (Germany, Poland, Slovenia, and lower mountainous regions), flowering will be delayed by 2 to 3 weeks.
- In zone 5 (Central Europe, Scandinavia), blooming will be delayed by 3 to 5 weeks.
In temperate climates, pruning of spring-flowering shrubs (forsythia, spireas, etc.) should be done just after flowering.
Pruning of summer-flowering shrubs (Indian Lilac, Perovskia, etc.) can be done in winter or spring.
In cold regions as well as with frost-sensitive plants, avoid pruning too early when severe frosts may still occur.
The planting period indicated on our website applies to countries and regions located in USDA zone 8 (France, United Kingdom, Ireland, Netherlands).
It will vary according to where you live:
- In Mediterranean zones (Marseille, Madrid, Milan, etc.), autumn and winter are the best planting periods.
- In continental zones (Strasbourg, Munich, Vienna, etc.), delay planting by 2 to 3 weeks in spring and bring it forward by 2 to 4 weeks in autumn.
- In mountainous regions (the Alps, Pyrenees, Carpathians, etc.), it is best to plant in late spring (May-June) or late summer (August-September).
The harvesting period indicated on our website applies to countries and regions in USDA zone 8 (France, England, Ireland, the Netherlands).
In colder areas (Scandinavia, Poland, Austria...) fruit and vegetable harvests are likely to be delayed by 3-4 weeks.
In warmer areas (Italy, Spain, Greece, etc.), harvesting will probably take place earlier, depending on weather conditions.
The sowing periods indicated on our website apply to countries and regions within USDA Zone 8 (France, UK, Ireland, Netherlands).
