Description

The Interspecific Impatiens 'Solarscape Salmon Punch' is an excellent hybrid variety that combines abundance and robustness. Its large, very 'punchy' coral-pink flowers enhance flowerbed borders and pot arrangements for months. Resistant to downy mildew and capable of thriving in full sun, this annual plant delivers continuous flowering with astonishing energy from spring until the first frosts.

The Interspecific Impatiens Solarscape® Salmon Punch ('PAS1645655') is an F1 hybrid cultivar developed by PanAmerican Seeds, resulting from cross-breeding between Impatiens walleriana and I. hawkeri. It combines the floribundus nature of walleriana with the robustness and sun tolerance of hawkeri. Propagated exclusively by sowing, the Solarscape series' performance equals varieties grown from uttings while offering a practical and economical alternative. All Impatiens and Sunspatiens belong to the balsaminaceae family.

The Solarscape® Salmon Punch Impatiens is a perennial that does not withstand our winters; it is cultivated as an annual in European climates. This small plant with a bushy and rounded habit, reaches 25 to 30 cm in height and 33 to 50 cm in width within 11 to 16 weeks. Its flowers measure 6 to 7 cm across and display an intense coral colour. Depending on the sowing date, the flowering extends from May-June until the first frosts. The ovate and glossy dark green leaves measure 5 to 7 cm long. The fleshy and succulent stems ramify from the base, giving the plant a dense and tidy habit.

Impatiens 'Solarscape Salmon Punch' warm up flowerbed borders and planters, placed in full sun or partial shade where they creates very dynamic displays. Pair them for example with Petunias 'Supertunia Vista Fuchsia', colour-changing Calibrachoa 'Chamaeleon Double Pink Yellow' and with Spurge 'Diamond Snow' for a striking white and airy note.

Our advice: To maintain soil coolness and reduce watering, we recommend applying a mulch at the base of the plants.

Planting and care

To successfully sow Impatiens Solarscape Salmon Punch, begin by sowing the seeds indoors approximately 8 to 10 weeks before the last expected frosts. Use a light, well-draining potting mix, preferably enriched with organic matter. The seeds should simply be pressed onto the soil surface, as they require light to germinate. Maintain a constant temperature of 20–24°C and ensure the growing medium remains moist but not waterlogged. Germination should occur within 14 to 21 days. Once the seedlings are sufficiently developed, transplant them into individual pots, gradually acclimatising them to outdoor conditions. Wait until all risk of frosts has completely passed before planting them in the ground or in containers, spacing them 15–20 cm apart.

Impatiens are easy to grow. They should be placed in full sun or partial shade. To accelerate their growth, bring them on in pots in a warm and bright location. Plant Impatiens in cool, well-drained, humus-rich soil. Water regularly, but be careful not to overwater. Apply a liquid fertiliser for containers once or twice a week during the growth period. Remove faded flowers and dry leaves as needed to maintain a neat appearance and prolong flowering. Be mindful to protect them from slugs, which are fond of their young leaves. Lastly, although this variety is resistant to downy mildew, it is important to monitor for signs of disease or pests and take prompt action if necessary.
