Impatiens or Busy Lizzie interspecific Solarscape® Magenta Bliss, with its cultivar name 'PAS1437686', is an F1 hybrid variety developed by PanAmerican Seed, resulting from a cross between Impatiens walleriana and Impatiens hawkeri. Belonging to the Balsaminaceae family, this cultivar combines the floriferousness of the walleriana species with the sun tolerance and robustness of hawkeri. The species Impatiens walleriana is native to East Africa, particularly Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania, where it grows in humid, shaded woodland areas. Impatiens hawkeri is native to Papua New Guinea and the Solomon Islands, where it develops in humid tropical environments. The 'Magenta Bliss' cultivar is distinguished by its bushy and rounded habit, reaching a height of 25 to 30 cm and a spread of 33 to 50 cm. Its growth is rapid, reaching maturity 11 to 16 weeks after sowing. The flowers, with a diameter of 6 to 7 cm, are a vibrant magenta to purplish-violet, with a satiny texture and a velvety appearance. Flowering extends from spring until the first frosts. The evergreen leaves are ovate, dark green, and glossy, measuring about 5 to 7 cm long. The stems are fleshy, succulent, and branched from the base. The root system is fibrous and shallow, suited to pot cultivation or in open ground in moist, rich, and well-drained soils. This plant is part of the first series of interspecific impatiens propagated by seed. Thanks to this innovation, gardeners can now enjoy the beauty of impatiens in sunny areas, once inaccessible to this species.
