Description

The Espresso Frappé Mix dwarf petunia blooms continuously from June until the first frost. Its frilly flowers almost completely cover the compact plant. They are bright pink or reddish-purple. This annual plant is particularly floriferous and will make a sensation in your borders, pots, and hanging baskets. Sow indoors, in a warm place, from the end of winter.

From the nightshade family, the Petunia genus comprises 35 species of herbaceous plants, perennials or annuals, native to tropical regions of South America, especially Brazil. Hybridisers have had a field day with varietal innovation. There are numerous varieties of petunias and other surfinias, with single or double flowers, more or less large and variegated. Petunias have fuzzy foliage that sticks to the fingers. One characteristic of petunias is that the stems elongate during flowering. The Espresso Frappé variety is resistant to this and remains compact. Its stems stay short, so its flowers remain well above the foliage. The Espresso Frappé petunia forms a tuft 20 to 25 cm tall and 30 to 35 cm wide.

All summer long, this dwarf petunia offers simple, frilly flowers in bright pink or reddish-purple. They measure between 6 and 8 cm in diameter. They are very original and will be sensational in your borders, pots, and hanging displays. Pair them with the white flowers of Lobelia White Cascade or with the silver, trailing foliage of Dichondra Silver Falls.

Attention, these seeds are reserved for experienced gardeners who are used to sowing very fine seeds. These seeds are as fine as dust, barely visible to the naked eye.

Planting and care

Sow the seeds of Petunia Espresso Frappé Mix in February-March, in a seed tray, on the surface of a compost-enriched seed compost. Place the tray at a temperature of 21-27°C to facilitate germination. You can mix the seeds with sand or light compost to sow them more thinly. Do not cover the seeds, but gently press them down to cling to the substrate, which should be kept moist (but not waterlogged). Germination usually takes between 10 and 21 days.
When the young plants are large enough to handle, transplant them into pots and let them grow in cooler conditions. 10 to 15 days before planting them in the garden, gradually acclimatise them to outdoor conditions.
Once all risk of frost has passed, plant them in the ground or in pots, in a sunny and sheltered location, in well-drained soil.
