Bidens Beedance® Painted Yellow
In the microplot, I didn't have the ideal environment to protect them and ensure a good start to their growth. It would be great to be able to put them in "incubators" for a few weeks!

Description
Bidens 'Beedance Painted Yellow', brother of 'Painted Red', possesses the same qualities as its sibling but displays yellow flower heads striped with red. This brand new hybrid bidens variety has a very compact habit and blooms from May to October, surrounded by a slight honey fragrance that attracts butterflies and bees. A unique and brilliant variety, it requires little maintenance and tolerates heat and temporary drought. This less hardy perennial plant is grown as an annual in well-drained, not too dry soil in sunny locations. Ideal for borders, rockeries, or container gardens.
Bidens are semi-hardy plants in very mild climates, belonging to the Aster family and closely related to Cosmos. The genus includes nearly 200 species, including annuals, perennials, undershrubs, and shrubs, usually grown as annuals in our climates. 'Beedance Painted Yellow' is part of a new line of hybrid plants selected for their endless flowering and compact habit. Bidens 'Beedance Painted Yellow' has a relatively short lifespan, but its growth is very fast. The plant forms a light, low, and rounded clump composed of branched and leafy stems, reaching a height and width of 25 to 35 cm (10 to 14in). Its long flowering period begins in May-June and only ends with the first autumn frosts. The plant produces flowers arranged in heads, reaching 3 to 4 cm (1 to 2in) in diameter, carried on slender axillary peduncles, and composed of 7 bicolored petals, yellow heavily striped with red, arranged around a golden yellow center. The color lightens slightly over time. The foliage is very decorative and evergreen in mild climates, consisting of small leaves divided into very narrow linear segments, with a deep vibrant green color.
Bidens grow very quickly and are very floriferous. They are not demanding in terms of water and are particularly suitable for container, hanging, rockery, or summer bed cultivation. They happily coexist with other annuals such as blue Lobelia, bacopa, and diascia, allowing for multiple color combinations. For example, Bidens Beedance Painted Yellow pairs perfectly with its red-centered brother Painted Red, red balcony geraniums, surfinias, supertunias, or petunias in shades of mauve or purple, or even with salvias offering blue flowers.

Upon receipt, transplant and store them in sheltered areas (veranda, greenhouse, cold frame, etc.) at temperatures above 14°C (57.2°F) for a few weeks before planting them outdoors once the risk of frost has definitively passed.

Planting and care
You can plant Bidens in the ground or in a pot. If you want to plant them in the ground, wait until the last heavy frosts have passed (Bidens can tolerate a light late frost). In the meantime, you can pre-cultivate them in a pot in a warm and bright place to accelerate their growth. Plant your Bidens in a sunny location. They need a light and humus-rich soil, not too chalky, but above all well-draining. They tolerate drought well, but will need regular watering during hot summer weather. They perish in constantly waterlogged soil. Very floriferous and fast-growing, they are hungry plants. We recommend feeding them with a liquid fertilizer during the growing season. Usually grown as annuals, they are actually fragile perennials: by bringing them indoors before the first cold weather, you can extend their flowering into autumn and winter.

Hardiness is the lowest winter temperature a plant can endure without suffering serious damage or even dying. However, hardiness is affected by location (a sheltered area, such as a patio), protection (winter cover) and soil type (hardiness is improved by well-drained soil).
The flowering period indicated on our website applies to countries and regions located in USDA zone 8 (France, the United Kingdom, Ireland, the Netherlands, etc.)
It will vary according to where you live:- In zones 9 to 10 (Italy, Spain, Greece, etc.), flowering will occur about 2 to 4 weeks earlier.
- In zones 6 to 7 (Germany, Poland, Slovenia, and lower mountainous regions), flowering will be delayed by 2 to 3 weeks.
- In zone 5 (Central Europe, Scandinavia), blooming will be delayed by 3 to 5 weeks.
In temperate climates, pruning of spring-flowering shrubs (forsythia, spireas, etc.) should be done just after flowering.
Pruning of summer-flowering shrubs (Indian Lilac, Perovskia, etc.) can be done in winter or spring.
In cold regions as well as with frost-sensitive plants, avoid pruning too early when severe frosts may still occur.
The planting period indicated on our website applies to countries and regions located in USDA zone 8 (France, United Kingdom, Ireland, Netherlands).
It will vary according to where you live:
- In Mediterranean zones (Marseille, Madrid, Milan, etc.), autumn and winter are the best planting periods.
- In continental zones (Strasbourg, Munich, Vienna, etc.), delay planting by 2 to 3 weeks in spring and bring it forward by 2 to 4 weeks in autumn.
- In mountainous regions (the Alps, Pyrenees, Carpathians, etc.), it is best to plant in late spring (May-June) or late summer (August-September).
The harvesting period indicated on our website applies to countries and regions in USDA zone 8 (France, England, Ireland, the Netherlands).
In colder areas (Scandinavia, Poland, Austria...) fruit and vegetable harvests are likely to be delayed by 3-4 weeks.
In warmer areas (Italy, Spain, Greece, etc.), harvesting will probably take place earlier, depending on weather conditions.
The sowing periods indicated on our website apply to countries and regions within USDA Zone 8 (France, UK, Ireland, Netherlands).
In colder areas (Scandinavia, Poland, Austria...), delay any outdoor sowing by 3-4 weeks, or sow under glass.
In warmer climes (Italy, Spain, Greece, etc.), bring outdoor sowing forward by a few weeks.
