Planted in the ground and in partial shade since late April, the plug plants are now 40cm (16in) tall three months later and have been continuously blooming since mid-June. They require a significant amount of water, especially with the summer sun. A magnificent plant, very vibrant.

Description

The Impatiens SunPatiens Vigorous White Variegated is a recent hybrid variety that is large and remarkable in every way. Vigorous, disease-resistant, and sun-tolerant, it offers large white flowers that open on a bright variegated foliage, yellow edged with dark green. These exceptional qualities are combined with excellent floribundity, covering the plant with flowers from late spring until frost. This frost-sensitive perennial plant will be grown as an annual, ideally in a sunny background bed, or planted en masse in a mix of colors.

The Impatiens SunPatiens Vigorous White Variegated is a recent hybrid cultivar of the Balsaminaceae family, among others, from Impatiens hawkeri, native to Papua New Guinea and the Solomon Islands. SunPatiens plants grow fast and are grown as annuals in our climates. They have been selected for their ability to tolerate full sun exposure, their resistance to powdery mildew, their floribundity, and their increased vigour.

'Vigorous White Variegated' develops from a strong stump into an erect clump with sturdy stems, bushy and spreading habit, reaching a minimum height of 80cm (32in), with a diameter of 75cm (30in). It is a very floriferous Impatiens that blooms from June until the first frost in October. It has large, single, cup-shaped white flowers with a spur. Its deciduous leaves, finely dentate and ovate-pointed, are bright yellow edged with dark green.

The Impatiens SunPatiens Vigorous White Variegated is more disease-resistant than the classic Impatiens. It works well in flower beds or large borders with a mix of colours, adding charm and elegance. It can be grown indoors as a perennial plant. In this case, it should be pruned in spring. SunPatiens is also a pollutant-absorbing plant and lowers the surrounding temperature. It received three gold medals in 2006 at Euroflora in Italy for best selection, best impatiens, and best bedding plant.

Note: Attention, our plug plants are professional products reserved for experienced gardeners: upon receipt, transplant and store them in a sheltered place (veranda, greenhouse, cold frame...) at a temperature above 14°C (57.2°F) for a few weeks before planting them outdoors once the risk of frost is definitively eliminated.

Planting and care

The white Vigorous SunPatiens Impatiens is easy to grow. It should be placed in full sun or partial shade. Plant it in the ground in spring from March to May, after the last frost, as Impatiens does not tolerate frost, for flowering from June until the first frost in October. To speed up its growth, pre-cultivate it in a pot in a warm and bright location. Place the Impatiens in well-drained and humus-rich soil. Water it generously but be cautious of excess. Pruning is not necessary. Very floriferous and fast-growing, it is hungry. Feed it with a liquid fertilizer for container gardens once or twice a week during the growth period. Remove faded flowers and dry leaves as they appear to keep it looking beautiful and extend the flowering period. Be careful, protect it from slugs that enjoy their young leaves, but otherwise, SunPatiens Impatiens is resistant to diseases.
