Description

The Impatiens SunPatiens 'Vigorous Lavender' is a recently developed hybrid variety that is remarkable in every way. Vigorous, disease-resistant, and tolerant of both sun and shade, it is covered in large lavender-pink flowers that open against a beautiful dark green foliage. These exceptional qualities are combined with excellent floribundity, from late spring until the first frost. This tender perennial plant is grown as an annual, ideally in a sunny border or planted en masse with other varieties from the Sunpatiens series. It is also a beautiful plant for summer compositions and flower pots.

Impatiens SunPatiens 'Vigorous Lavender' is a hybrid cultivar from the family Balsaminaceae, derived, among others, from Impatiens hawkeri, a botanical species native to Papua New Guinea and the Solomon Islands. The SunPatiens series plants grow quickly and are grown as annuals in our climates. They were selected in the USA for their ability to tolerate full sun exposure, their resistance to powdery mildew, their floribundity, and their increased vigour.

'Vigorous Lavender' grows from a strong stump into an upright clump with sturdy stems and a bushy and spreading habit, reaching a minimum height of 80cm (32in), with a diameter of 70cm (28in). It is a highly floriferous Impatiens that blooms from June until the first frost in October. It has large single cup-shaped flowers, pink with a hint of mauve and a spur. Its finely toothed ovate-pointed leaves are dark green.

Impatiens SunPatiens 'Vigorous Lavender' is more disease-resistant than the classic Impatiens. It is well-suited for mass plantings or large borders mixed with other colours, adding charm and elegance. It can be grown indoors as a perennial. In this case, it should be pruned in spring to encourage new growth. The SunPatiens Impatiens is also a pollution-absorbing plant and lowers the surrounding temperature. This plant received three gold medals in 2006 at Euroflora in Italy for best selection, best Impatiens, and best bedding plant.

Note: Please be aware that our plug plants are professional products intended for experienced gardeners: upon receipt, transplant and store them in a protected environment (veranda, greenhouse, cold frame...) at a temperature above 14°C (57.2°F) for a few weeks before planting them outdoors once the risk of frost has passed.

Planting and care

Impatiens SunPatiens 'Vigorous Lavender' is easy to grow. It should be placed in full sun or partial shade. Plant it in the soil in spring from March to May, after the last frost as Impatiens cannot tolerate frost, for flowering from June until the first frost in October. To speed up its growth, pre-cultivate it in a pot in a warm and bright place. Place the Impatiens in a well-drained and rich in humus soil. Water it generously but be careful not to overwater. Pruning is not necessary. Very floriferous and fast-growing, it is hungry. Feed it with a liquid fertilizer for container plants once or twice a week during the growing season. Remove faded flowers and dry leaves as they appear to keep it looking beautiful and prolong flowering. Be careful, protect it from slugs that enjoy their young leaves, but otherwise, Impatiens SunPatiens is resistant to diseases.
