Very beautiful flowers that resist harsh weather conditions as well as high temperatures, and are also very floriferous. However, a major downside is that the seedlings in tiny polystyrene trays take a very, too long time to grow and flower. It would be much appreciated to have plants in the usual bucket size, even if they cost more.

Description

Collection of 5 trailing double Surfinia Petunias: white, medium pink, dark pink, dark blue and lavender.

These trailing Surfinia Petunias form a veritable cascade of large double flowers from June to October.

These recently obtained trailing petunias are notable for their unusual height, 40 cm (16in), much larger than their traditional cousins. Resistant to drought and heat, they appreciate a sunny site.

Young plants measuring 4 to 8cm (2 to 3in), in cases of 5 small plugs measuring 2.8 cm (1in) in diameter and 4 cm (2in) in height, labeled separately. Our plants are at least eight weeks old and strong enough to be planted in the ground.

Please note: our young plug plants are professional products reserved for experienced gardeners: upon receipt, transplant and store them under shelter (veranda, greenhouse, cold frame) at a temperature above 14°C (57.2°F) for a few weeks, before being planted outdoors once all risk of frost has passed.

Planting and care

You can plant your petunias in the ground or in a pot. In the ground, wait until the last heavy frosts have passed (Surfinia petunias tolerate a small late frost). In the meantime, you can pre-cultivate them in a pot in a warm and bright place to accelerate their growth. Plant your petunias in a sunny site sheltered from the wind. They need a light and humus-rich soil, but above all it should be well-draining. Do not water them too much at the beginning of the growing season as they are sensitive to excess moisture. They tolerate drought well, but will need regular watering during hot summer weather. Very floriferous and fast-growing, they are hungry plants. We recommend feeding them with a liquid fertiliser for Surfinia petunias once or twice a week during the growing season. Remove faded flowers and dry leaves as they appear to keep them looking beautiful and extend the flowering period.
