Description

An assortment of 5 trailing Petunia Surfinias in various colours

These trailing plants form a cascade of large double flowers from June to October.

Recently introduced trailing petunias are remarkable for their 40cm (16in) height, much higher than their traditional cousins. Resistant to drought and heat, they appreciate sunny situations.

Supplied as plants measuring 4 to 8cm (2 to 3in) in 5 separate labelled plugs measuring 2.8cm (1in) in diameter and 4cm (2in) in height. Our plants are at least eight weeks old and strong enough to be planted in the ground.

Note: Please be aware that plug plants are products intended for experienced gardeners: upon receipt, transplant and store them under shelter (conservatory, greenhouse, cold frame) at a temperature above 14°C (57.2°F) for a few weeks before placing them outdoors once the risk of frost has passed.

Planting and care

You can plant your petunias in the ground or in a pot. If you want to plant them in the ground, wait until the last heavy frosts have passed (they can tolerate a light late frost). In the meantime, you can grow them on in a pot in a warm and bright place. Plant your petunias in a sunny location sheltered from the wind. They need light, well-drained, humus-bearing soil. Do not water them too much at the beginning of their growth as they are sensitive to excess moisture. They tolerate drought well but will need regular watering during hot summer temperatures. They are very floriferous and fast-growing, hungry plants. We recommend feeding them with a liquid fertiliser for surfinias once or twice a week during the growing season. Remove faded flowers and dry leaves as they appear to maintain their appearance and prolong flowering.
