Description

Dianthus barbatus 'Jolt Pink Magic' is a brand new hybrid variety of sweet William with all the qualities. It bears small dense bunches of single flowers that change from white to deep pink as they mature, great in the garden or in containers. This lively little plant devotes all its energy to flowering tirelessly from spring until frost, indifferent to all weathers. A short-lived, easy-to-grow perennial which is often used as an annual.

Dianthus barbatus is from the Caryophyllaceae family found in many temperate regions of Europe and Asia. It is considered a biennial as It is not very long-lived and flowers in the second year after sowing. The 'Jolt' series brings together hybrid cultivars, selected for their vigorous, branching growth, vibrant colours, and excellent tolerance to heat and cold. 'Jolt Pink Magic' forms a dense mound of dark green, flowering from spring to late summer or autumn. Its very small flowers with toothed petals are gathered in bunches or flattened cymes at the end of 45 cm (18in) tall, sturdy stems. The flowers are white when they open and gradually turn a deeper pink, their colour will be even more pronounced when the weather is sunny and the nights are cool. They have a very pleasant, discreet, spicy and sweet scent, reminiscent of cloves and cinnamon. The flowers of this variety are sterile and do not produce seeds, resulting in more flowers.

Sweet William 'Jolt Pink Magic' is very easy to grow and requires minimal maintenance. Like bellflowers and columbines they have a place in every garden and every bouquet. Choose a prominent location, for example along a path or near an entrance, to fully enjoy their sweet fragrance. Plant sweet Williams in mass to create beautiful splashes of colour in your flower beds and grow them in the cutting garden to increase the supply of flowers for bouquets. 'Jolt Pink Magic' adapts particularly well to pots, on the terrace or balcony, where it competes with the most beautiful balcony geraniums for brilliance and flower power.

Note: Please be aware that our plug plants are professional products reserved for experienced gardeners: upon receipt, transplant and store them under cover (veranda, greenhouse, cold frame...) at a temperature above 14C° for a few weeks before planting outdoors once the risk of frost has passed.
