Description

The 'F1 Carrera Pink Shades' hybrid pansy offers an abundance of large, original flowers adorned with a deep blackish-purple central macule, finely edged with bright pink, thus beautifully enhancing the petals which are of a more or less intense pink. An exquisitely romantic variety, perfect for brightening up gardens and balconies in autumn and again in late winter, reaching its peak between March and June. This biennial pansy is early, vigorous and floriferous, easy to grow in humus-rich and moist soil, in sun or partial shade.

Garden pansies, sometimes called giant Swiss pansies, are actually hybrids grouped in the Viola x wittrockiana group. They belong to the violet family and are most often grown as annuals or biennials, although they are theoretically perennial but short-lived. The 'F1 Carrera Pink Shades' variety produces branching plants that quickly form compact clumps, 15 to 20 cm (7.9 in) tall and 20 cm (7.9 in) wide. Flowering occurs early, from October to the end of spring. The 6 cm (2.4 in) wide flowers, well open, are adorned with more or less intense pink tones punctuated by a deep blackish-purple central macule with a halo of bright pink. The center is occupied by a tiny bright yellow and white heart. The plant has 2 types of leaves, the lower ones are ovate with dentate margins, and the upper ones are narrower and shorter.

If you love them in the garden you will greatly appreciate them in window boxes, to enjoy while keeping warm inside. Plant alongside primroses, Wallflowers, Grape Hyacinths, Daisies, and even with grasses like Japanese Sedge for a graphic effect in a contemporary spirit. Associate them with heucheras and tulips. The bluish green of glaucous fescues also enhances them well.

The petals of pansies are edible, and their colours will bring a touch of originality to your salads and pastries. For this purpose, think of growing them as you would your vegetables - in the most natural way possible.

Please note that our young plants in mini-plugs are professional products intended for experienced gardeners: upon receipt, transplant them as soon as possible into pots, or directly into flower beds.

Planting and care

Very floriferous and fast-growing, pansies are hungry and appreciate a sunny or partially shaded site. They thrive in a humus-bearing, neutral to acidic, moist and fertile soil. Feed them with a liquid fertiliser for containers once or twice a week during the growth period. Water regularly but not excessively. Regularly remove faded flowers to promote new blooms.
