The mini plants planted in a pot in October bloomed very well in December, slightly more tinted with pale violet than in the photo. Perfect.

Description

Viola x wittrockiana Cool Wave Frost is a hybrid variety of V. x wittrockiana. It is a biennial plant with soft and charming flowering, lasting from October to April. Its habit is trailing. It bears an abundance of white flowers striped with light blue that succeed each other continuously. It is ideal in hanging baskets, but also works well as ground cover at the front of borders. This adaptable plant can withstand difficult climatic conditions.

The Cool Wave series, developed in the USA, brings together a collection of pansies that have a trailing habit. They have excellent branching and quickly form a clump that can reach 20cm (8in) in height and 30 to 40cm (12 to 16in) in width. They can even be encouraged to grow more vigorously with fertilisation every 15 days. They exhibit remarkable flowering power from autumn to spring. It is a short-lived perennial plant, grown in biennial form in our latitudes. It bears small crenate leaves with an elliptical shape. The foliage is a medium green colour. It bears an abundance of small flowers measuring 3 to 4cm (1 to 2in). They are composed of five petals. The white hue, frosted by a blue-edged border, is awakened by a beautiful little golden heart with blue whiskers. The petals are edible (if you choose to grow them without treatment), so try adding them to your salads.

When planted in summer, they will bloom from autumn onwards. These robust pansies withstand unfavourable weather conditions and tolerate periods of frost. They may droop in the cold, but will revive as temperatures become milder. They will accompany you throughout winter, becoming more discreet, and continue to bloom in spring.

Pansies are wonderful in the garden, but they also work beautifully in a pot on a windowsill to be enjoyed up close. They look perfect in pots on a patio, or in flower beds with spring bulbs. This variety will complement the yellow of daffodils and the purple of crocuses.

Please be aware that our plug plants are professional products intended for experienced gardeners. Upon receipt, transplant them as soon as possible, either in pots and containers, or directly in flower beds.

Planting and care

Transplant the plugs directly into pots or planters upon receipt. Monitor watering and regularly apply fertiliser (approximately twice a month).

If you wish to plant them in the ground, first transplant them into a pot. Water carefully, but do not saturate the soil. There is no need to keep them in a greenhouse. They will be satisfied with a non-burning exposure. After a month, you can transplant them directly into their permanent location.

Remove faded flowers as they appear to encourage the growth of new buds.
