Absolutely thrilled, I've had it for a few years and it blooms beautifully in a pot with a support in the city! Its flowers are truly delicate.

Description

The Clematis patens 'Veronica's Choice' is a beautiful clematis with large pompons, white with mauve-pink undertones, reaching a height of 2m (7ft) and flowering in May/June and then in August/September.

In May and August, this robust plant, reaching a height of 2m (7ft), bears white pompons with mauve-pink undertones and pale yellow anthers, measuring 12cm (5in) in diameter. Its evergreen ovate leaves, of medium green colour, measuring 8cm (3in) long, are carried by voluble stems that twine around their support with tendrils.

Hardy, the Clematis patens 'Veronica's Choice' thrives in a light, well-worked, deep, moist, and fertile soil, in a sunny position with the base in shade. To achieve this, plant ground cover plants.

The Clematis patens 'Veronica's Choice' is ideal for flowering pots or on a small bamboo structure. Combine several species of clematis or pair it with a climbing rose!

Tips: Avoid excessive fertilisation, which stimulates foliage growth at the expense of flowers. Do not mulch to prevent excessive moisture, which promotes the disease of wilting.

Planting and care

The Clematis patens 'Veronica's Choice' should be planted in spring or autumn, 10cm (4in) deep, with the root ball placed flat on the soil rather than vertically as usual. The head should be in the sun and the base in the shade. Cover the base with a small mound of soil to promote new shoots. After planting, cut back the stems to 30cm (12in) from the base, above a pair of buds. Train them loosely to help the plant attach itself later on. In February, prune every other branch to 50/80cm (20/32in) from the ground, every year.
