Our range of Dwarf Ivies. Ideal for small spaces, borders, rockeries and containers in partial shade, these small ivies (derived from Hedera helix) bear evergreen foliage, decorative all year round. Their growth is slow and their habit remains compact (maximum 1.5m in height and 1.5m in spread). Like the dwarf ivy 'Shamrock', these varieties are useful in urban gardens, planters and on low walls.
The 'Shamrock' ivy shows small trilobed leaves of a bright green and a very dense habit; it is perfect as groundcover or in pots. 'Little Diamond' features miniature variegated foliage, grey-green highlighted with cream, and slow growth: it brightens shady scenes and holds well in hanging baskets. 'Eva', with grey-green leaves finely marginate with creamy white, stays neatly in place and lends itself to frames and structures for topiaries. 'Goldchild', variegated with creamy yellow, illuminates light woodlands and flower containers.
Hardy down to approximately −20 °C, these dwarf ivies tolerate shade, partial shade and gentle sun. Plant them in ordinary, fresh but well-drained soil; in pots, use a light substrate and ensure good drainage at the bottom. Prune lightly in spring to control their development and make them denser. Although climbing with stems equipped with climbing roots, dwarf ivies remain low in vigor: they spread rather in tight cushions.
