Received, one out of three was a bit thirsty but a little water and off it went. As for the seeds, I'll see later if they grow. Anyway, the package was great, top-notch.

Description

Thunbergia alata Sunny Susy Red Orange is an annual climbing plant with charming orange flowers with a black centre.

With rapid growth, this plant will grow up to 2m (7ft) in just one summer, and will continuously bloom until September.

It is suitable for pot cultivation as well as in open ground, in sunny locations. This voluble but lightweight climber pairs well with perennial climbing plants and can also be used as ground cover.

We often plant it with summer-flowering bulbs, such as gladioli. It wraps itself around the leaves and blooms in the most unlikely places, adding whimsy to rigid flower beds.

The supplied plants measure 4 to 8cm (2 to 3in) in trays of 5 small plugs, 3cm (1in) in diameter and 4cm (2in) high. Our plants are at least eight weeks old and strong enough to be planted in open ground.

Please be aware that our young plug plants are professional products intended for experienced gardeners. Upon receipt, transplant and store them in a sheltered location (veranda, greenhouse, cold frame) at a temperature above 14°C (57.2°F) for a few weeks before planting them outdoors once the risk of frost has passed.

Planting and care

You can plant them in the ground or in a pot. If you plant them in the ground, it is imperative to wait until the last frosts have passed (they do not tolerate frost and do not handle temperatures below 8°C (46.4°F)). In the meantime, you can pre-cultivate them in a pot in a warm and bright place to accelerate their growth. Plant in a sunny or semi-shaded location. They need light and humus-bearing soil. They tolerate short periods of drought quite well, but will need regular watering during hot summer temperatures to flower properly. Potted plants should be watered regularly.

They reach 2m (7ft) in the space of one summer. Provide support if you use them as climbing plants.

They are very delicate perennials grown as annuals, but you can extend the flowering period into autumn and winter by bringing them indoors in September.
