Our range of Bergamots (Citrus bergamia) citrus trees cultivated for their fragrance and fruit rich in essential oils. The Citrus bergamia type has been used since the 18th century in Eau de Cologne or Earl Grey tea. It has given rise to several varieties such as the Bergamot 'Fantastico' selected for its productivity. The 'Castagnaro' variety is known for the quality of its zest and the richness of its fragrance. Traditionally cultivated in southern Italy, the Calabrian Bergamot produces an intensely aromatic essential oil used in perfumery and cooking.
Bergamot trees are bushes reaching 2 to 4 metres in height, with evergreen, glossy, and aromatic foliage when crushed. They are adorned with small, highly fragrant white flowers in spring, followed by green fruits that turn yellow at ripeness between November and January.
Plant them in the ground in frost-free regions or in pots to be stored indoors during winter elsewhere. Protect them as soon as temperatures drop below 5°C.
