Description

The Organic 'Grosse Mignonne' Peach is a very old variety appreciated for its vigour, its exquisite and colourful, large fruits and its natural resistance to diseases. The tree is self-fertile and beautiful with magnificent pink blossom in March-April. The 'Grosse Mignonne' also delights enthusiasts because the very red skin of its fruits is easy to remove from the flesh. It is white, slightly pink near the small stone, very sweet, juicy and well-flavoured. This peach ripens quite late in the season, starting from August 15th in an average climate.

The species name "persica" was given to the peach, which was thought to originate from Persia. In fact, all cultivated forms originate from northern China. Its appearance in Europe occurred in the 6th century and experienced significant development in the 19th century.

Like many fruit trees, the 'Grosse Mignonne' Peach likes light, rich, and deep soils, it does not tolerate excess water or heavy and compact soils. It is a very vigorous tree. It will stay a moderate size, rarely exceeding 4m (13ft) high. This variety has beautiful, abundant spring flowering composed of large, deep pink, slightly purplish flowers before the young leaves develop. This peach is self-fertile and does not need the presence of another variety to bear fruit. The deciduous foliage is bright green and emits a slight almond scent. It turns yellow and falls in autumn.

This variety can be planted almost anywhere provided it is well exposed to the sun and sheltered from cold winds. The fruita are beautiful red peaches with a satin appearance. The white and juicy flesh is red around the stone, sweet and well-flavoured. The peach can be enjoyed raw, cooked, sweetened, salted, flambéed, glazed, or deglazed. It pairs very well with wine and certain meats, such as duck. It can be found in many recipes, particularly jams, compotes, pastries... Surrounded by a few bulbs, it will cheerfully accompany the beginning of spring.

For transport reasons, our tallest scions may be pruned before shipment. They are suitable for all common pruning sizes: cordons, espaliers, goblets, half-standards, and low standards, but not high standards. Planting and care

The 'Grosse Mignonne' Peach should be planted in October or November. Dig a hole two to three weeks before planting, twice as wide and deep as the pot. On the day of planting, place the tree with its pot in water, to moisten the entire root ball. Add compost to the bottom of the hole. Place the tree and fill the planting hole with a mixture of soil and compost. Gently firm around the base as you fill, ensuring that the roots are in close contact with the soil. The root ball should be completely covered. Water thoroughly immediately after planting.

The 'Grosse Mignonne' Peach has a semi-pivot root system. It thrives in fairly deep soils. It also prefers light and well-drained soil.

Care

Pruning instructions Prune before the start of vegetation. The fruits appear on one-year-old branches and wood that has borne fruits will not reproduce. For fruiting pruning, prune the branches that have already fruited to 2 buds above the future branching. To maintain the goblet shape convenient for harvesting, remove crossing branches in the centre and shorten the longer outward-facing ones to maintain a harmonious silhouette.
