Description

The Garden Pearl® Pyvert Dwarf Pear Tree is a small tree with very low vigor that adapts well to both open ground and container cultivation. Surprisingly, it produces numerous fruits, as large as those of normal vigor trees. They are green and slightly rounded. Their flesh is melting, sweet, and slightly sweetish. Harvest takes place from late September to October. The Garden Pearl® Pyvert Dwarf Pear Tree is self-fertile.

The pear tree is a tree native to central Asia, cultivated in China for 6,000 years. It was introduced to Europe around the 6th century. Although its development in the Middle Ages remained limited, there were already 200 varieties during the Renaissance. Since then, the number of varieties has continued to increase. The Garden Pearl® Pyvert Dwarf Pear Tree is a French horticultural dwarf variety.

If it is not frost-sensitive, the Garden Pearl® Pyvert Dwarf Pear Tree will appreciate sheltered and sunny locations, avoiding frost-prone and windy situations. Easy to grow, it likes moist and deep soils, but dislikes excessively draining and limestone soils. In winter, add a shovelful of wood ash, rich in potash, to improve flowering and fruit quality.
Its upright and bushy habit gives it a desirable rounded silhouette. Its oval-shaped leaves, finely toothed along the edge, have a petiole as long as the lamina. They are shiny green and very decorative!
Its beautiful white-pink flowering is very abundant and late, in late March, protecting it from frost. Its flowers are formed by 5 white-pink petals. They are self-fertile. Therefore, it is not necessary to plant another pear tree nearby.
This variety produces numerous fruits, as large as those of normal vigor trees. They are green and slightly rounded. Their flesh is melting, sweet, and slightly sweetish.

Pears can be eaten fresh, in syrup, in pastries, in jam and compotes, and used to prepare alcoholic beverages.

Planting and care

Plant the Garden Pearl® Pyvert Dwarf Pear Tree in a sunny location, in acidic or neutral soil, moist but not excessive, or in a pot of at least 25 L. Ensure drainage of the planting hole with a thin layer of gravel. Dig a hole two to three weeks before planting, twice as wide and deep as the pot. On the day of planting, place the tree with its pot in a basin of water, in order to moisten the entire root ball by capillary action. Add compost to the bottom of the hole. Place the tree in the hole, fill with a mixture of soil and compost. Do not bury the graft union. Firmly tamp down around the base. The root ball should be completely covered. Water thoroughly.

You can add a small handful of wood ash, rich in potash, during winter time to improve fruiting.
