A maiden pear tree is a one-year-old grafted young fruit tree, consisting of a stem that is still little or not at all branched. Less expensive than an already trained tree, it can be trained as a goblet, spindle or espalier.

Our selection includes many certified organic varieties. The pear tree 'Conférence' produces fine, juicy fruit in autumn, while 'William's Bon Chrétien', renowned for its aroma, ripens from late summer. 'Doyenné du Comice' is appreciated for its meltingly tender, sweet flesh; ripening later, 'Comtesse de Paris' produces pears that keep well over winter. Planting several varieties allows you to stagger the harvests.

Before ordering your pear trees, check their compatibility in terms of pollination. If you have limited space or would like to grow a fruit tree in a container, also discover our dwarf pear trees. To support the growth of your young fruit tree, read our article "Fruit trees: training pruning of a maiden tree": everything you need to know about the first pruning operations to carry out after planting.
