Description

Lilaeopsis brasiliensis, or False Tenelus, is an oxygenating plant that plays an essential role in the good health of your pond or water feature. Growing slowly, it develops from creeping shoots and forms a carpet of green leaves, resembling an aquatic lawn that does not exceed 10cm in height. It is a low-maintenance plant that requires light to grow.

From the Apiaceae family, the Lilaeopsis brasiliensis is, as its name suggests, native to Central America, particularly Brazil. It is an aquatic perennial plant that develops from creeping stolons on the surface of the pond floor, forming a carpet-like mat that can become quite dense. Its leaves are thin, upright, and arranged in a rosette. Evergreen, they are light green to medium green. Its flowering occurs from May to August, but is relatively insignificant. They are small umbels of white flowers tinged with green.

Place this oxygenating plant in a water feature to obtain a healthy and purified environment where biodiversity thrives. Combine it in a pond or water feature with other oxygenating aquatic plants such as Elodea canadensis or Hippuris vulgaris. To adorn the edges of your water feature, consider Iris ensata 'World's Delight', with its slightly pink-tinged white flowers, and Lysimachia nummularia with its numerous yellow flowers.

It lives between 0 and 40cm deep in the water. It can live in moist or even wet soil, or with its roots in the water, cultivated in a basket. No pruning is necessary due to its slow growth.
