Description

Andropogon gerardii Prairie Sommer is a tall grass that is very hardy, known by Americans as 'Big Bluestem', which sums up its main characteristic in two words.

It is tall, even towering, with a habit that is both arching and rigid; its long and slender leaves have, in summer, a somewhat indescribable greenish-blue colour that becomes a lovely coppery red in autumn.

With great adaptability, Andropogon gerardii 'Prairie Sommer' thrives in both dry and rocky soil as well as moist to wet soil, even clay soil but, to reach its full potential, this 'beauty of the meadow' needs plenty of light to flourish.
