Description
Achillea tomentosa, the woolly yarrow, is also known as the turkey herb. Its spreading habit and green, woolly, finely divided foliage, which is drought-resistant, make it the ideal plant for greening your borders. In spring or summer, a yellow flowering will give the plant some height.
The woolly yarrow is a perennial with green foliage that is highly divided and covered in white hairs. This effect gives the evergreen leaves a grey-green colour throughout the year. The flowering period varies depending on the climate. In Mediterranean and oceanic zones the flowering period extends from April to May, while in areas with harsher climates, it occurs from July to September. During these periods, long stems of 25 cm (10in) will develop, revealing a multitude of bright yellow flowers that bring light to the borders.
Perfectly hardy, it is often attacked by aphids to such an extent that it is used in organic gardening to prevent or deter attacks on other plants. It is highly adaptable and can thrive in any well-drained soil, preferring sunny exposures. Ideal for borders, meadows, or as a cut flower, it can be accompanied by delphiniums, irises, and poppies.
We recommend it to anyone who wants to see a carpet of greenery with minimal maintenance or to those who want to vegetate slopes and difficult spaces.
