Plant planted this year for months. It has produced a few leaves. I hope to see it flower next year. It seems to flower every other year...

Description

Angelica gigas is a biennial that offers a beautiful flowering, which is highly attractive to bees. This plant will grow rapidly in a few months. The flowering takes place in the second year of planting from August to September. The flowers are carried on the ends of long and robust dark red stalks. The flower umbels, measuring 12cm (5in) in diameter, are composed of numerous dark purple flowers.

Its decorative foliage is deciduous, medium green, with leaves measuring 30 to 40cm (12 to 16in) long. These leaves are dentate and divided into three lobes.

At maturity, Angelica gigas can reach a height of 1.5m (5ft). It tolerates very low temperatures. This biennial is native to northern China, Korea, and Japan. It is an ornamental plant that can be placed along the edge of a flower bed or even in isolation on a lawn. It can also be found in cool woodland areas. Its cut and dried flowers can form impressive bouquets.
