The bergenias, also known as "Shoemaker's Plant", are excellent ground cover plants for dry shade. They are perennial and hardy, forming large creeping stumps and slowly spreading over the ground. The leaves of bergenias are round, evergreen, thick and glossy, measuring 15 to 25cm (6 to 10in) in diameter and are green or golden depending on the varieties. In late winter, they bear a multitude of small bell-shaped flowers, often pink, white or red. Widely used on shaded slopes, bergenias have a long lifespan and can live for several decades without any care.

You'll adore them!
