Our Echinopsis Range, architectural cacti with spectacular flowers. These cacti are globose, sometimes cylindrical with age, or columnar, shaped like tall candles reaching toward the sky. Mature specimens produce large funnel-shaped flowers, often short-lived but very beautiful.
The peanut cactus, or Echinopsis chamaecereus, is a popular small creeping cactus with segmented stems that becomes covered in bright orange flowers in spring. Echinopsis oxygona forms clusters of globose stems covered in thorns, and produces large pink or white flowers that open in the evening. Echinopsis multiplex, or Easter Lily Cactus, is a globular cactus with large fragrant flowers ranging from white to pale pink, even light red, that is highly popular among cactus enthusiasts. Echinopsis tubiflora, with its long golden thorns, stands out for its nocturnal flowering with white petals and greenish throat. Another sought-after variety, Echinopsis peruviana, also called "Peruvian Torch Cactus", distinguishes itself through its rapid growth and beautiful 25 cm nocturnal white flowers.
Echinopsis can be grown in pots or in the ground in mild climates; their cold resistance varies according to the variety. They appreciate a sunny exposure and a well-draining substrate, formed of potting soil and sand. Spaced watering in summer and a dry, cool winter rest are essential to stimulate their flowering. Any excess moisture can cause root rot.
