Our selection of giant fennels brings together large, structural and low-maintenance perennials perfect for dry and sunny gardens. The best-known, Ferula communis, the Giant Fennel, impresses with its stature (up to 3 m tall), its giant fennel-like foliage, and its large golden-yellow umbels that appear from May to July. This Mediterranean perennial is also prized for its ability to attract pollinating insects. Ferula tingitana, the more compact Tangier Giant Fennel (1.5 to 2 m), stands out with its extremely fine foliage and equally bright summer flowering. Native to Asia, Ferula assa-foetida is cultivated for its resin used in cooking (asafoetida) and medicine, though it is less ornamental in the garden.

Giant fennels thrive in full sun and well-drained, dry to moderately cool, even poor or rocky soil. They dislike stagnant moisture in winter. Once established, they require little maintenance: occasional watering when planted, mulching at the base, and possibly staking for the tallest species.
