Description

The perennial geranium oxonianum Ankum's White offers a beautiful bright flowering, with white petals finely veined with lavender. This plant is an excellent ground cover, with a beautiful vigor, which blooms for a long time from June to September, above a beautiful medium green to bright green foliage, more or less evergreen in winter. Content with rainwater in summer, it is a hardy and accommodating plant that thrives in full sun or partial shade, in not too dry soil, in the garden or in a pot.

The perennial geranium oxonianum Ankum's White belongs to the Geraniaceae family. It is the result of cross-breeding between Geranium endressii, a robust Pyrenean ground cover, deciduous, and G. versicolor, a taller Italian geranium, evergreen in winter, tolerant of relative drought. This hybrid forms a ground cover about 40 cm (16in) high, spreading over 45 cm (18in) or more in optimal conditions. It has an upright, dense, and spreading vegetation. It regularly displays its flowers with 5 simple petals, pure white finely veined with lavender, between June and September. Its leaves are pleated and deeply cut, with visible veins, plicate, lobed, divided into five lobes. This foliage, ranging from medium to bright green, persists if the winter is not too cold.

This perennial geranium Ankum's White is a large and easy-to-grow ground cover, which finds its place in perennial or low shrub borders, high edges, slopes, rockeries, large pots on the terrace. It easily associates with all kinds of accommodating perennial plants such as Asters, Nepetas, Sedums or Carnations. It is also perfect for covering the base of climbing roses.

Planting and care

The perennial Geranium oxonianum is a hardy, accommodating and easy to grow plant. However, it prefers fertile, well-drained and fairly moist soils, although it occasionally tolerates drought, which greatly reduces its flowering and vegetation. Plant it in a sunny position or, at most, semi-shaded. Prune it after flowering to promote new growth. Cut back severely in July to rejuvenate the foliage and stimulate the reblooming of the flowers.
