The red-flowering heathers are varieties of Calluna and Erica in shades of carmine, ruby or purplish red. These evergreen undershrubs fill rock gardens, borders, banks and containers. Their flowering periods extend over much of the year.

Among the heathers, Calluna vulgaris 'Dark Beauty' bears semi-double flowers in a rich pinkish red from August to October. The trailing variety Rasta Girls 'Rote Janina' stands out with its purplish-red buds, which remain closed and retain their colour for a long time in autumn. The celebrated Erica × darleyensis 'Kramer's Rote' flowers from October to April, depending on the climate; its numerous bell-shaped flowers range from magenta red to dark pink.

If you would like to create a border or a colourful container display in the depths of winter, you will find what you are looking for among our Darley Dale heaths – Erica × darleyensis. If your soil is neutral or slightly alkaline, you will find suitable plants among the lime-tolerant heathers. Our guide "How to choose a heather?" will help you select the variety best suited to your garden.
