All our winter heathers (Erica × darleyensis) have a generous flowering from December to April. The widely cultivated variety ‘Kramer's Rote’ stands out with its very bright, dark red flowers. These winter heathers are small evergreen bushes with a carpeting or slightly spreading habit, excellent ground covers for beds, borders or rockeries. 'White Perfection’ offers a dazzling white flowering on its dark green foliage. ‘Darley Dale’ produces abundant light mauve pink flowers and forms a dense carpet in the garden.
Winter heather prefers sunny exposures. It grows in different types of well-drained soils, slightly acidic, neutral, or even slightly calcareous, unlike many heathers. It is very hardy and requires little watering once established. Light pruning after flowering is enough to maintain a compact habit.
