The young plant is beautiful indeed, the colour doesn't really match the picture, a shame.

Description

Originally from northwestern Turkey to the Caucasus, northeastern Greece, the Yellow Oriental Hellebore is a perennial plant with a creamy yellow colour that will brighten up the shaded areas of your garden in winter. It is a hardy plant that can tolerate temperatures as low as -15°C (5°F). It has palmate basal leaves, slightly dentate, dark green and shiny. These are evergreen, 30 to 40 cm (12 to 16in) long, composed of 7 to 9 leaflets.

Oriental Hellebore reaches a height of 40 cm (16in) and spreads over 30 cm (12in) when mature. From January to March, a bouquet of single flowers forms, measuring 5 to 7 cm (2 to 3in) in diameter, cup-shaped and nodding. The Hellebore is a bushy plant which does not like to be moved once established, as the young shoots take some time to flower.

This toxic plant should be handled with caution. It is suitable as cut flowers and in borders, edges, or containers. Over time, the Hellebore flowers do not wilt like the majority of other flowers, but dry out.

Each seed-sown Hellebore has a unique flower colour: thus slight colour variations may exist between two plants, which is normal and inevitable. However, if the difference is too significant and detracts from the desired effect, we will refund or replace the affected plant.

Planting and care

Helleborus Orientalis grows in most soils that are rich and neutral in partial or light shade, sheltered from wind. Plant from early autumn to spring to bloom from January to March. It thrives in deep, well-worked soil mixed with organic matter. For feed, use bone meal or another organic fertilizer. In acidic soil, add a little lime. Water well after planting and add a layer of mulch 2 to 5 cm (1 to 2in) thick. Regularly remove wilted leaves. Cut most of the leaves to make the flowers stand out. Be sure not to plant the plants too close together to promote their development. Hellebore does not like stagnant water as it may cause it to rot.
