Hesperis matronalis Flore Pleno or Dame's Rocket is a deciduous perennial with a rosette habit. Its main asset is its powerful fragrance reminiscent of jasmine. The name Hesperis comes from the Greek word, hespera, which means "evening", alluding to the stronger scent of the flowers in the late afternoon. Insects appreciate this flower. The flowering period begins at the end of May and ends in July. Impressive double flowers measuring 3 to 4 cm (1 to 2 in) in diameter emerge in clusters. These flowers are a lilac-white colour.

This is a very hardy plant provided the soil is well-drained. This allows it to be grown without any issues in many regions. It exhibits rapid growth from the first year. It does not live for a long time but self-seeds abundantly. Stems bear lanceolate-shaped (shaped like a lance) dark green leaves measuring 10 to 20 cm (4 to 8 in) in length. It has deciduous foliage.

Originally from southern Europe, Siberia, and western and central Asia, Dame's Rocket, as it is also known, among various other names, can grow from 60 cm (24 in) up to 1 m (3 ft) in height. It is often placed in flower beds near houses to enjoy its sweet fragrance. It is also suitable for wild gardens as it freely self-seeds. The variety pairs well with pale blue or violet delphiniums, as well as vibrant yellow rudbeckias. It can be combined with pure white paniculate phlox, white bee balm, summer daisies, or dahlias to create a beautiful white garden.
