Thanks to the individuals (for the order preparation and shipping), the bulb received is healthy. Planted near the "Warm Brown" and "Sultan's Palace" varieties, I am now patiently waiting for it to take root... (or not?)

Description

Everyone knows Iris germanica, which has become world-famous thanks to paintings by Van Gogh and Monet.

Its wide sword-shaped leaves contrast with tall crumpled, multicoloured flowers. The flowers have three large upright petals and three silky, trailing sepals, with "beards". Flowering lasts a few weeks in May/June. This Iris has large fleshy rhizomes creeping on the ground. It likes sun, warmth, and light, well-draining soil. It does not mind cold or summer drought but hates wet, heavy soils. Superb in a sunny border, it is also loved for bouquets.

Iris Sorbet Fraise is 80cm (32in) high. It bears raspberry pink flowers with red beards.

It is robust and needs to be exposed to full sun, in dry and well-draining soil.

Plant Iris Sorbet Fraise in a border or mass planting, alongside achilleas, alliums, stipas or roses. It is better to scatter them in groups of 3 or alone instead of creating regimental iris beds.

Planting and care

Iris Sorbet Fraise should be planted shallowly, with the rhizome exposed at ground level. Add sand if the soil is too heavy or wet, and place the rhizomes on small mounds. Ensure good drainage to prevent the irises from rotting. In summer, this iris should be watered 1 to 2 times a month. At the end of flowering, cut the flower stems to 10 cm (4in) above the ground. Damaged leaves should only be removed in autumn. Do not give too much nitrogen as it increases the number of leaves at the expense of flowers. Taller flower stalks become brittle. Iris can be susceptible to heterosporiosis, a disease identified by oval brown spots. Every 4 years after flowering in summer, divide the clumps by uprooting the entire plant and transplanting the most beautiful young plants from the rhizome, usually those on the outskirts, to an area that has been without irises for the last year.
