Very good growth, abundant flowering from the first year, which is quite rare and already at a good height.

Description

The Kniphofia Pineapple Popsicle is a new cultivar, with early flowering, green buds opening into cream yellow.

Originally from South Africa, also known as Tritoma; Kniphofia is a perennial with spectacular flowers. In summer, it forms a robust stump, forming a rosette of lanceolate leaves, more or less fleshy depending on the species. The floral spikes, well known to gardeners for their structural effect, are slender, carrying a multitude of tubular flowers. The flower buds often change colour as they open, so the spikes often bear 2 to 3 different colours. Although some old varieties have unusual colours, sometimes unaesthetic, for almost 10 years now, new varieties with softer shades or less "violent" gradients have emerged.

Kniphofias are very easy to grow, they are content with little, they live in all types of poor and well-drained soils, they grow on slopes, in rockeries, along a gravel path, etc... Associate them as a contrast to grasses and you will no longer see Kniphofias in the same way!

A dwarf variety, forming floral spikes with green buds, opening into cream yellow at 50cm (20in) in height. Kniphofia 'Pineapple Popsicle' is an early and perpetual variety, it will start flowering in spring for 2 months and will bloom again in late summer.

Plant it in a sunny bed, in the company of stout plants, associate it with Stipa, Nepeta or Achillea.

Planting and care

Plant Kniphofia in a sunny location in well-drained, rocky or sandy soil. In heavy soil, add 1/3 sand and 1/3 coarse gravel to the topsoil. Although Kniphofia is very resistant, it does not tolerate excess water in winter, so plant it on a mound or slope to avoid any waterlogging.
