Planting and care

Outside of a few annuals, most lobelias are excellent summer perennials. Though they have a reputation for poor hardiness, most of the species and varieties we cultivate have withstood all our winters. The only drawback of certain varieties, especially in hybrids, is that they are sometimes short-lived: the crowns hollow out and rot. The best way to make them last is to divide the crowns every 2 to 3 years, preferably in spring. Thus rejuvenated, they will be your companions for life. All of them are deciduous and the foliage completely disappears in winter.
