Yellow and orange poppies provide a light and bright flowering in a flower bed, rockery, flowering border or natural garden. Depending on the species, these poppies are perennials or annuals to be sown from seed. They all have fine, silky petals, carried on flexible stems above lobed foliage. Yellow, pastel, golden or deeper shades to combine well with grey foliage, ornamental grasses, blue perennials and white flowers.

Meconopsis cambrica, or Welsh poppy, is great for cool areas of the garden, in partial shade, where it can self-seed. The more compact Papaver nudicaule ‘Gartenzwerg’ is suitable for sunny borders and rockeries. Iceland poppy seeds ‘Artist’s Glory’ produce single, satiny flowers in shades of yellow, orange, white or pink, also charming in cut flower arrangements. Papaver nudicaule ‘Summer Breeze Mixed’, with its airy flowers, is best planted young or sown directly in place.
If you are looking for more opulent flowers for a sunny bed, consider Oriental poppies. In poor, dry soil, Californian poppy seeds will be more suitable.
