Very beautiful colour but the young plant doesn't really thicken up in the sunlight.

Description

Phlox divaricata subsp. laphamii 'Chattahoochee' is an ephemeral perennial with a branching, bushy habit. It is a cross-breeding between Phlox divaricata subsp. laphamii and the pale, velvety violet flowers of Phlox pilosa. Phlox has a short lifespan but when it blooms, it is exceptional. From June to July, it displays clusters of numerous flat flowers measuring 2 to 3cm (1in) in diameter in lavender-blue with a crimson red eye. These flowers have entire petals and are held upright on purple-tinted stems.

This plant, native to the Chattahoochee Valley in northern Florida, North America, has semi-evergreen leaves measuring 2 to 5cm (1 to 2in) in length. These lanceolate (lance-shaped) leaves are dark green and tinged with purple when young. 'Chattahoochee' has excellent hardiness. It is fragrant and attracts butterflies.

At maturity, this perennial reaches a height of 25cm (10in). It is suitable for rockeries as well as borders and flower beds. It is a small-sized perennial for edging beds.
