Phlox paniculata Younique Old Blue

Phlox paniculata 'Younique Old Blue' displays beautiful flowers with a 'batik' pattern, combining lavender blue, mauve, and white. It is part of a series of phlox selected for their compact habit, abundant, prolonged, and fragrant flowering, as well as their ease of cultivation. Resistant to heat and humidity, these varieties are less susceptible to powdery mildew and they bloom for almost three months if care is taken to remove faded flowers. Phlox paniculata 'Younique Old Blue' belongs to the family Polemoniaceae. It is a herbaceous perennial with a woody stump that forms a branching plant of leafy stems from spring onwards. Ultimately, the plant reaches about 45 cm (18in) in height (for the foliage) and 40-45 cm (16-18in) in width. The stiff and somewhat brittle stems are covered with alternate, simple, ovate, and lanceolate bright green leaves. Flowering begins in June-July, depending on the climate, and continues until September, provided faded flowers are removed. In full bloom, the plant can reach a height of 65-70 cm (26-28in) in rich soil. The small flowers, 1.5 to 2.5 cm (1in) in diameter, have a tubular corolla of white-pink around a lightly maculate throat of pink. They are grouped at the end of the stems in dense panicles, which are pleasantly fragrant. The flowering is melliferous and nectariferous.

The Phlox paniculata are perennial plants commonly found in gardens, as their simplicity and legendary generosity are almost unmatched in perennial beds. They get along well with Monardas and Daisies. You can mix the Younique series Phlox with each other, with asters, or with white flowers, with which they form an elegant combination.
