Saxifraga cortusifolia Black Ruby

Saxifrage cortusifolia 'Black Ruby' is a perennial of the undergrowth with chocolate-brown foliage. It blooms from September to November, with peculiar purple-pink flowers.

This small plant produces a rosette of deciduous leaves, 20cm (8in) in diameter. They are lobed, toothed, rounded, shiny, 5 to 8cm (2 to 3in) long, and chocolate-brown in colour. At the end of summer, pyramidal panicles, 10cm (4in) long, offer pretty cup-shaped flowers with 4 upper petals and 2 longer lower petals. They are purple-pink, and measure 3 to 5cm (1 to 2in) in diameter. Lean in a little closer to enjoy their delicate scent.

'Black Ruby' thrives in light, humus-rich, moist and well-drained soil in semi-shade or full shade. Plant it in a shady rock garden, borders, or walls. It can also be planted in containers with campanulas or Veronica umbrosa. 

NOTE: Attention! This is a delicate plant to be reserved for experienced gardeners. Plant 'Black Ruby' in any light and moist soil. This perennial does not tolerate heavy and wet soils in winter.
