Description

Tiarella 'Morning Star' -  a chic, striking addition combining old charm and modernity for spring arrangements!

This perennial plant forms dense, evergreen tufts of deeply cut, bright green foliage with a black-brown centre, which renews itself early in the spring to produce a display that is coordinated to appear with the flowers. From late February until early summer, there is a multitude of upright stems on which an abundance of creamy white star-shaped flowers emerge continuously from pink buds, reaching a height of 25-30 cm (9.8 - 11.8 in).

A close cousin of heucheras, the Tiarella 'Morning Star'  thrives in a cool, semi-shaded location in light and humus-rich soil, but will also tolerate the gentle winter and spring sun in terrace, balcony, or windowsill arrangements. It is very hardy and easy to grow. In pots and containers, it brings a touch of lightness and undeniable originality when combined with tulips, pansies, primroses, daisies, and other new biennials such as Erysimum or spring daisies 'Flirt', particularly in white, pink, mauve, and purple tones.

Note: Attention, our young plug plants  are professional products best suited for experienced gardeners: upon receipt, transplant them as soon as possible, in pots, containers, or directly in flower beds.

Planting and care

The Tiarella 'Morning Star' plug plants can be planted directly into well-prepared and enriched soil or in pots and planters. Plant them if possible upon receipt, in September-October. If the intended location is not yet ready or the conditions are unfavourable for planting, you can let them grow on in pots for 4 to 6 weeks.

In pots and planters, use a good potting compost for flowering plants (geranium-type compost) enriched with clay and slow-release fertilizer, light and well-draining. The top of the root ball should be level with the soil. Water generously at planting and during the following weeks, as the young plants can quickly dry out. However, be careful not to overwater! Use containers with drainage holes and empty the saucer 10 minutes after watering. Remember to water, even during winter, if it doesn't rain or if the container is placed in a sheltered spot. Do not water during periods of frost.

Full of flowers and fast-growing, Tiarella 'Morning Star' requires little maintenance. Apply a liquid fertilizer for flowering plants 1 to 2 times a week when watering, as soon as growth starts up again, in late February or early March, and throughout the flowering period, . Remove spent flower stems from time to time to maintain a beautiful appearance. Once flowering is over, plants in pots can be replanted in the garden in partial shade.
