Our Trichocereus Range. These "candelabra" or "columnar" cacti offer an architectural silhouette and spectacular flowering. The most well-known is the San Pedro Cactus, Trichocereus pachanoi, a vigorous species with rounded midribs and short thorns, widely used in pots or as standalone specimens. More cold-tolerant, Trichocereus terscheckii can be planted directly in the ground in milder regions: it can withstand occasional frosts of around -10°C in perfectly drained soil. It forms tall bluish-green columns and produces large white flowers. Trichocereus cuzcoensis is more compact with deep midribs and more prominent prickles: it's often grown for its architectural appeal and robustness, though it remains less hardy. Trichocereus spachianus, more slender with golden thorns, is also valued for its rapid growth and summer flowering, especially in containers.

These columnar cacti appreciate a warm, sunny exposure, a very well-draining mineral substrate, and moderate watering in summer. They dislike stagnant moisture and must be protected from frost, except in dry, sheltered areas of the south. In pots, bring them indoors when temperatures drop to 5°C and overwinter them dry.
