Rosa Le Grand Huit - Climbing Rose

The Rose 'Le Grand Huit'  is a climbing plant that is not impressive in stature but instead in its vigour, good health, and remarkable flowering, with large double flowers woven with dark red velvet and wonderfully scented. Its large roses bloom from May to the first frost in successive waves, creating generous bouquets on dark green, shiny and disease-resistant foliage.

'Le Grand Huit' or 'Adabaring', sometimes called 'Red Flame', is a name given to a well-scented climbing rose with dark red flowering that blooms again. This same climbing rose was once called 'Commandant Cousteau', which comes from the same genetics but forms a bush and was renamed with the current name we now know it by. Michel Adam created these climbing roses and possessed the same disease-resistance qualities.

'Le Grand Huit' or 'Adabaring' is part of the complex family of hybrid tea roses, also known as large-flowered roses. It is a recent creation dating back to 2004 and has been awarded numerous times for its exceptional fragrance internationally. It is a climbing rose with excellent vigour. It has a flexible habit and thorny stems, reaching 2 to 3 metres (7 to 10 feet) in height with a 1 metre (3 feet) spread, depending on the growing conditions. The young shoots and leaves of this variety are a frosted red. The mature foliage is shiny, dark green, and exceptionally healthy. It perfectly enhances the colour of the flowers. This climbing rose blooms from May to October abundantly as long as it does not lack water or nutrients. Its large 10 - 12 cm (4 - 5in) wide roses, grouped in bouquets, are full and composed of 26 to 40 petals with an intense red colour. Their fragrance, powerful and sweet, falls into the category of fruity fragrances.

Red climbing roses, scented with good repeat flowering, are rare enough to be sought after and appreciated at their true value. They are always spectacular and exceptional under the intense light of our southern regions that love red flowers. These roses deserve a wall exposed to the morning sun, a small tree, or a structure large enough and strong enough to support the weight of their flowering. They allow for sumptuous decorations throughout the summer, requiring very little maintenance except for regular watering in summer during periods of high heat and prolonged drought. Mix or combine them with easy-to-grow large-flowered clematis such as 'Violet Star', 'Prince Charles' or 'Broughton Star'. They are good companions for phlox paniculata, delphiniums, foxgloves, catmints, and tall baby's breath.
