Thanks to the individuals (for order preparation and shipping), the bare-root rose I received looks healthy. Planted near the same variety, I am now patiently waiting for it to take root... (or not?).

Description

The Lavender Meillandina dwarf rose is a charming and easy-to-care-for miniature variety, perfect for decorating patios and low borders. This little bush blooms generously between June and October, offering clusters of lovely little roses, very well-formed, adorned with an unusual mauve fuchsia colour. Its foliage, resistant to diseases, remains decorative throughout the season.

The flowers, gathered in clusters, come from the polyantha rose, an old hybrid resulting from Rosa multiflora and R. chinensis. Their shape resembles that admired in the flowers of modern hybrid teas. This variety has a particularly compact, bushy, ball-shaped habit. Slow-growing, it will not exceed 50 cm (20in) in all directions. The very double flowers, 4 cm (2in) wide, composed of 25 to 35 petals, emerge from dark pink pointed buds. They open in an intermediate colour between mauve and fuchsia pink. The flowering is renewed from May-June to September-October, almost uninterrupted if the soil remains moist. The scent of the flowers is very light. This variety develops medium green, deciduous foliage, resistant to diseases, carried by thorny stems.

Obtained by Meilland

The 'Meillandina Lavender' rose, with its low and compact habit and its neat appearance, performs wonderfully in rockeries, low borders, or in a flowering pot on the patio.  Plant it en masse along pathways or to highlight shrub beds. It integrates perfectly with light or opulent perennial beds and pairs well with other dwarf roses like the varieties from Delbard's 'Bordure' series. You can associate it with white, mauve, or pink blooms for a more romantic look. Perennial geraniums (Geranium Blue Cloud, Anne Folkard, Nimbus, Orion, Rozanne), bellflowers (lactiflora, rapunculoides), catmints, creeping baby's breath, or other silver basket plants will be good companions for this mini-rose.

Planting and care

Mini-roses prefer a sunny location (at least 4 to 5 hours of sun per day), but protected from the scorching midday rays and strong winds. They appreciate loose, permeable, deep, and fertile soils. They prefer a neutral to slightly acidic soil, but will adapt to any garden as long as the soil is well cultivated and sufficiently rich. To plant your rose in a pot, work the soil to a depth of 40 cm, crumble the soil well, and add a bottom amendment such as bonemeal.  Position your plant, removed from its pot, covering the top of the root ball with 3 cm (1in) of soil, refill the hole, and water generously to remove any air pockets. In dry weather, it is necessary to water regularly for a few weeks to encourage root establishment.  Remember to provide your rose with special rose fertiliser to stimulate plant flowering.
