Thanks to Laeticia (order preparation & quality control) and Jenny (shipping), the bare-root rose received appears healthy. Planted near many of its counterparts (Triple Threat, Glamis Castle, Winchester Cathedral, etc.), I am now waiting for it to establish...This is the opinion of an amateur who has successfully planted over 470 different rose varieties in his garden (including over 80 AUSTIN roses and around a hundred old-fashioned ones).

Description

The Rosa generosa 'Eliane Gillet' is a bush with a long flowering period from May until the first frost. It produces large double flowers in a cup shape, with a white colour marked with red. They are slightly fragrant. The flowers of this variety remind us of contemporary roses.

The Rosa 'Eliane Gillet' has a flowering period that contrasts with its shiny green foliage. The flowering is very perpetual. The generosa rose is a rose with very good hardiness. It can reach a height of 1m (3ft) at maturity.

Grow it on its own or in flowerbeds. You can accompany it with white or red roses for a remarkable effect. It also pairs well with white gypsophila, gaura, or penstemon. Cut the flowers to make beautiful bouquets. The 'Eliane Gillet' rose is a bush resistant to cold and diseases, like all generosa roses.

Planting and care

Roses prefer a sunny location (at least 4 to 5 hours of sun per day) but sheltered from the scorching midday rays and strong winds. They appreciate loose, permeable, deep, and fertile soils. They prefer a neutral to slightly acidic soil, but will adapt to any garden as long as the soil is well worked and sufficiently rich. To plant your rose in a pot, work the soil to a depth of 25 cm (10in) by crumbling the soil and placing a bottom amendment such as dried blood or dehydrated horn, position your seedling in the new pot by covering the top of the root ball with 3 cm (1in) of soil, fill in and water generously to remove air pockets. In dry weather, it is necessary to water regularly for a few weeks to facilitate rooting. Also, remember to provide your rose with special rose fertiliser that stimulates plant flowering.
