Description

The 'Bordure Blanche' Rose, with a thousand small pure white rosettes, forms a true carpet of snow throughout the beautiful season. Low and dense, this little bush has a beautiful dark and shiny foliage, very healthy, which perfectly highlights its long flowering. Perfect as a border, in a flower bed or in a planter, alone or combined with other varieties, it will make all colours vibrate! This worry-free rose will fit anywhere: as a border, in a flower bed, in a small hedge, or even in a pot on the terrace or balcony.

The flowers of the 'Bordure Blanche' Rose, gathered in small terminal bouquets of 4 to 8 flowers, come from the polyantha rose, an old hybrid resulting from the multiflora rose and the chinensis rose. It has a bushy and slightly spreading dome-shaped habit, as wide as it is tall. It will not exceed 50-60 cm (20-24in) in all directions. The flowers in small semi-double cups, well-formed in rosettes, emerge from cream-white buds slightly tinged with pink. They open up becoming very white, while revealing their heart populated with bright yellow stamens. They bloom in very large numbers in pyramidal clusters, in May-June, more sporadically during the hottest months, and then again in September. This vigorous and relatively disease-resistant variety develops deciduous, shiny dark green foliage. Its stems bear thorns. This excellent variety has won 4 medals in national and international competitions.

The 'Bordure Blanche' rose, robust, adapts to all soils that are not too dry and prefers fertile and deep soils. Its dense and low, well-groomed appearance works wonders in rock gardens or on a slope where it will cover the ground. It can also be planted in groups of 3 plants, arranged in a triangle, isolated on a lawn. Plant it en masse as a border for pathways or to highlight shrub beds. It will integrate perfectly into beds of light or opulent perennials and can be combined with other dwarf roses like 'Golden Border', 'Pearl Border', 'Pink Border' or 'Vibrant Border', according to each gardener's taste. For example, it can be associated with perennial geraniums (Geranium 'Blue Cloud', 'Anne Folkard', 'Nimbus', 'Orion', 'Rozanne'), bellflowers (lactiflora, rapunculoides), catmints, snapdragons, foxgloves or carnations. It is naturally perfect for decorating the terrace or balcony, planted in a beautiful pot, a large basin or other planter.

Obtained by Delbard (France) in 1997.

Planting and care

Roses prefer a sunny location (at least 4 to 5 hours of sunlight per day) but sheltered from the scorching midday rays and strong winds. They thrive in loose, permeable, deep, and fertile soil. They prefer a neutral to slightly acidic soil, but will adapt to any garden as long as the soil is well-prepared and sufficiently rich. To plant your rose work the soil to a depth of 25 cm (10in), crumble the soil well, and place a base amendment such as dried blood or dehydrated horn at the bottom of the planting hole. Position your plant, removed from its pot, covering the top of the root ball with 3 cm (1in) of soil, fill the hole, and water generously to remove any air pockets. During dry weather, regular watering is necessary for a few weeks to facilitate root growth. Also, remember to provide your rose with special rose fertiliser to stimulate flowering.
