Description

BALI® ‘IPB008816’ bush rose combines very double large roses with a fairly branched, regular habit, making it ideal for a large container display. Their deep pink colour warms to orangey pink near the centre, while their yellow reverse becomes visible as they open. Repeat flowering and very healthy, this bush rose flowers for many weeks against dark green, glossy foliage. Use it in beds and large borders of roses near the house. Its flowers also look very beautiful in bouquets.

Selected in the Netherlands by Interplant Roses in 2021, this rose bears the trade name BALI® and the official varietal name ‘IPB008816’. It was previously introduced under the name Holiday Island Oahu®. It is a hybrid tea, a group belonging to the large-flowered bush roses. These roses produce large double corollas on upright stems, either solitary or occasionally arranged in small clusters. The plant forms a dense, well-balanced bush within a few years, 80 cm to 1 m tall, with thorny branches that divide regularly. Its double, deep-cupped flowers have a tightly packed centre arranged in a spiral. They open into a wider, almost flat cup, with broad, slightly reflexed outer petals. Their fragrance is light. Flowering continues in waves from June to October in most regions. The leaves are composed of oval, toothed leaflets which are dark green, glossy and particularly healthy, with good resistance to common rose diseases. The deciduous foliage is absent in winter. BALI® is marketed as part of the SUNFLOR® collection, which brings together garden roses created by Interplant Roses and Weeks Roses. The change from its name Holiday Island Oahu® to BALI® retains the reference to a tropical island, echoing the warm tones of its flowers.

This Bali bush rose is particularly well suited to decorating terraces and urban gardens: planted in a large pot, its dense habit and beautiful foliage covered with large roses are already decorative. In the open ground, its orangey pink colour combines well with the purple foliage of Physocarpus ‘Little Joker’, the indigo blue of Nepeta ‘Cat’s Pajamas’ and the pale blue of Salvia nemorosa ‘Crystal Blue’. Geranium sanguineum ‘Album’ can be planted in a ribbon at the front to highlight the bed. All these plants enjoy sun and well-drained soil that retains a little moisture in summer.

Planting and care

Plant rose Bali in autumn or at the very beginning of spring, in ordinary, deep, well-loosened and well-drained soil. Roses thrive in clay soils, preferably heavy rather than light. In soil that is too sandy, too compacted or too dry in summer, it is best to incorporate potting compost, well-rotted manure or compost into the bottom of the planting hole. However, this rose dislikes waterlogged soil in winter. Plant it in a sunny position, or at a push in partial shade. Roses are hungry plants, so applying a specialist fertiliser will benefit the start of growth, followed by regular applications throughout flowering.
