Rosa x floribunda 'Mariatheresia' - Shrub Rose

The 'Mariatheresia' Rose Bush is a recent creation by German rose breeder Tantau, brimming with charm and vitality. On a narrow bush, bouquets of very double, old-fashioned style flowers, not very large, in a delightful powdery pink, succeed and cluster throughout the beautiful season. These roses hold well in the rain and do not wither in the sun. Their lemony-scented fragrance is most noticeable in warm weather. It is a sturdy, healthy, and generous variety that will delight novice gardeners and lovers of romantic bouquets, as its flowers are very long-lasting in a vase.

The Mariatheresia Rose 'Tan97094' belongs to a series of exceptional roses beautifully named Nostalgie, just like the cultivars Pastella, Chippendale, and Aspirin Rose. These varieties, belonging to the floribunda group, produce clusters of old-fashioned rose-type flowers at the end of young shoots from June to October and offer excellent disease resistance. Mariatheresia, with its narrow bushy habit, will not exceed 90 cm (35in) in height and 50 cm (20in) in width, making it suitable for small spaces. Its flowering is particularly abundant from June to October-November. Its roses, reminiscent of the famous 'Jacques Cartier', measuring 7 to 8 cm (3in) wide, have over 40 petals arranged in tight quarters, are slightly flattened, and gathered in generous clusters. The buds open into round and well-opened cups and then produce flowers in a candy pink, a fairly deep shade that fades as they fully bloom, offering a lovely range of pink hues. The thorny stems are adorned with deciduous foliage, divided into large leaflets, emerging red and becoming dark green and smooth in summer.

Floribunda roses can create beautiful small hedges planted along the patio or in borders with small shrubs. Combine them with abelias, nandinas, deciduous pink or blue ceanothus, or caryopteris. They are good companions for peonies, paniculate phlox, and tall baby's breath. The modest size and resistance of 'Mariatheresia' make it an interesting variety for all gardens, even small ones, and for cultivation in large pots. Its uses are versatile, according to each gardener's desires: in a rose bed, accompanied by white varieties ('Marie Pavie', 'Swanny'), or mauve ones ('Blue Boy', 'Rhapsody in Blue', 'Roman Waltz'), or mixed with easy-care perennials like 'Rozanne' geraniums, small-flowered carnations, or blue asters. These charming old-fashioned roses last for several days in bouquets.
