I am very unhappy, package delayed and then lost, and item no longer available as always lately. Great variety but unreliable shipping.

Description

The 'Zelda' 'Reuvery' Rose forms a compact bush that blooms continuously from May to October. Its glossy dark green foliage, free from diseases, provides a beautiful backdrop for the bicolour double roses, where the cream white gradually turns red over time. Very floriferous, this variety has been awarded for its numerous ornamental qualities and natural disease resistance. Perfect in diverse flowerbeds alongside perennial plants and bushes.

'Zelda' is a modern bush rose with clustered flowers introduced to the market by the French breeder Reuter. It won first prize at the 11th edition of the Grand Prix de la Rose awarded by the SNHF (National Horticultural Society of France). This prize rewards various criteria, such as the quality of the rose and flowers, floriferousness, vegetation, health condition, fragrance, charm...
Like all roses, this plant belongs to the large Rosaceae family. A reasonably compact variety, it reaches a height of 60 to 80 cm (24 to 32in) with a width of about 50 cm, forming a dense and tight bush. Its green branches are sturdy and thorny, carrying abundant, ample, healthy foliage with a shiny dark green colour. Deciduous, the foliage falls in late autumn. From May onwards, the roses appear and continue blooming until frost, provided that faded flowers are regularly removed so that the bush does not tire unnecessarily in producing fruits. The flowers, with a turbinated shape, are double, with numerous petals arranged in a spiral from the centre to the periphery, their colour changing from cream white to red, creating a colourful and joyful harmony. Measuring approximately 8 cm (3in) in diameter, they are clustered in bouquets, clearly visible against the dark foliage that enhances their beauty. Slightly fragrant, they captivate the eye with their elegant charm.

This 'Zelda' or 'Reuvery' rose is an easy-to-grow plant suitable for everyone and everywhere. It fits nicely in a large pot on the patio or balcony, among perennial plants or other bushes, along pathways, or in flowerbeds. In summer, it will be beautifully accompanied by blue-flowering plants such as the Perovskia atriplicifolia Lacey Blue, whose grey foliage will create a superb contrast with the dark green of the rose, which can be planted in front of it. Compact, the Lavande angustifolia Bleu de Gien will also be perfect in the foreground, offering the same shades as the Perovskia. Taller, reaching over a meter, and featuring grey foliage and blue flowers, the Caryopteris clandonensis Sterling Silver can be planted behind the rose. In mild climates, you can also pair the early flowering of Zelda Reuvery with the Ceanothus Dark Star with its incredible cobalt blue heads. Add some decorative grasses to your scene, such as the Pennisetum alopecuroides Piglet, which will delight you with its pinkish-beige plumes during the summer.

Planting and care

When planting your 'Zelda' rose, make sure to choose a location that receives a good amount of sunlight or light shade. Although modern roses are adaptable, they do not do well in soil that has excessive limestone. As long as the soil is well-worked, not too heavy, and highly nutritious, they can thrive in any garden. To install your rose, crumble the soil and place an amendment, such as blood, fish, and bone, at the bottom of the planting hole. Soak the root ball in a bucket of water for 15 minutes before planting and then water it thoroughly to remove any air pockets. For a few weeks, water the rose regularly to help it establish its roots.

Roses may develop unsightly spots at the end of summer, but this is a natural occurrence and doesn't harm the rose's growth.

Care

Pruning instructions Pruning modern repeat flowering roses is important for flowering and should be done in three stages: 1. Regular maintenance pruning: During the season, regularly shorten the flowering branches and remove faded flowers along with their stem, leaving 2 or 3 leaves to encourage repeat flowering. 2. Preparatory autumn pruning: Lightly prune in preparation for the 'main' spring pruning. Note: This is not recommended in regions with cold winters as this could weaken the bush. 3. Spring pruning: In February-March, when the buds have become shoots 2 to 3 cm (1in) long, prune the young, strong branches to one-quarter of their length. When pruning, always aim to remove dead wood, diseased branches, and weak shoots while opening up the centre of the bush. Retain the most vigorous branches, generally 3 to 6 well-positioned, to maintain an attractive habit. Always prune at a slant ½ cm or 1 cm (0in) above an outward-facing bud.
Pruning Pruning recommended once a year
