Description

The BHS Top Dress Lawn Repair is a professional quality product made up of English Ryegrass seeds with a high-performance coating that provides better soil adhesion, nutrition for young shoots, and improved seed distribution. This product allows for easy, quick, and long-lasting reseeding of small bare areas in any type of lawn. The seeds are best sown in March-April or September-October, preferably in a well-prepared and loosened soil, in sunny areas. 500g of coated seeds can cover 25m² of bare areas.

Species present in the mixture: 90% English Ryegrass, 10% 4n RGA; coating: 45%

Some BHS tips:

Sowing: To prepare the soil, weed at least one week before sowing with a 20-30cm (8-12in) deep ploughing. Remove as many stones, roots, and other obstacles as possible.

Rolling: This operation is performed right after sowing and ensures close contact between the seed and the seedbed, which has two advantages. The seed in contact with its environment will nourish itself more easily. Stuck to the ground, it is also less likely to be displaced by rain.

Germination: Maintain an optimal temperature of 15-30°C and good soil moisture. Germination occurs between 4 and 20 days depending on the species.

Watering: The first watering should be done after sowing to allow the seed to swell, then every 3 days until germination. Do not water in case of high temperatures, and preferably in the evening or morning.

Planting and care

Sowing:

Sow directly in place in the sun, in March-April in a humid climate or in September-October in warm southern regions, in well-prepared soil, free from weeds, refined and raked. Scatter the seeds on the surface of the soil and lightly rake to cover them. Optionally, use a roller to ensure good seed adhesion to the ground. Regularly water with a fine mist to keep the soil slightly moist until germination if there is no rain.

Dosage:

  • 1 box of 500g for 25 m².

To reseed bare areas of the lawn:

  • Scratch the areas to be treated with a simple hand rake if they are small and few. In the case of larger and more numerous areas, use a scarifier to aerate, loosen and remove any moss.
  • Rake the soil to remove plant debris and small stones.
  • Prepare a mixture of potting soil and compost.
  • Spread about 1cm of this mixture over the areas to be repaired.
  • Rake it in so that it penetrates the surface of the soil.
  • Level the surface with a roller or a plank.
  • Then sow your Top Dress BHS lawn reseeding mix.
  • Cover the seeds with a very thin layer of soil and tamp down well.
  • Water with a very fine mist to avoid displacing the seeds.
